He was signed by Brooklyn in ‘49 and spent ‘49 to ‘54 in the minors before the Dodgers called him up in ‘54. He played a utility role in the infield for the Dodgers, largely as a part time player. He had one All Star year in ‘61 hitting .252 for the year and playing in 128 games for the Cubs of Chicago. He was released by the Washington Senators in ‘65, ending his career as a player. He would later manage, and in ‘89 was named Manager of the year for the Chicago Cubs.
