Description: Up for sale, a 1958 Martin 000-28 vintage auditorium body acoustic guitar in collector-grade condition, complete with a hardshell case. One of Martin's most popular body sizes, this 000 is a well-kept vintage example with a solid X-braced Sitka spruce top and bookmatched Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Receiving all the maintenance due a Martin of this vintage, the guitar features a professional neck reset, with a carved bone nut and through saddle, retaining the original maple bridge plate. The sound is exceedingly balanced, clear and sweet-sounding with equal presence afforded each string. Projection is ample, and the low end is defined yet relaxed. The trebles have a certain dry airiness and are quite round-sounding for single note lines. The 000 body shape is very sympathetic to fingerpicking, and the body's tonewoods and overarching voicing offer a versatility for a broad range of genres and gigging/recording scenarios. The instrument weighs 4lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-54 strings and easy-playing action. The mahogany neck has a medium depth soft V profile carve, measuring .870” deep at the 1st fret and .999” at the 9th. On the ebony fretboard, the original slender frets have good meat and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath B and High E strings on frets 1-5. The scale length measures 24.9", and the nut is 1 11/16" in width, upgraded to bone. On the headstock, the stock Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as intended with clean nickel plating. The neck has been professionally reset, and the new bone saddle has plenty of height, ensuring decades of future viability, with action sitting at 7/64" on the bass side at the 12th fret and 5/64" on the treble side. The ebony bridge sits flush with the spruce on all edges, showing virtually no deflection of the top, and the original pickguard is intact as well, reseated in the guitar's lifetime. The grain on the solid Brazilian back and sides is particularly dynamic, and the rosewood is crack-free. On the spruce top, there is one very slight repaired split on the outer edge of the pickguard, and one even smaller professionally addressed split on the bass-side rim. Cosmetic wear is limited to some pick scuffing beyond the treble-side pickguard edge and various small scuffs and minor marks roughly evenly distributed across the body. A vintage Martin-style (Japanese-made) black tolex hardshell case is included.
