Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. Dr. John R. Guarino (left) teams up with his brother Louis J. Guarino, MEPE to demonstrate their new apparatus for clinical and hospital use--an artificial kidney. An employee of the Brusch Medical Center in Cambridge, acts as the patient. Louis, Director of Engineering of a New York firm, built the artificial kidney to the specifications of his doctor-brother. Principal advantages of the "Guarino Kidney" are its low-cost manufacturing price ($400-$500); its small size; and its simplicity of operation. Photo measures 9 x 7.25inches.
