Description: This 1941 C Newfoundland Canada 10 Cents Dime is a circulated coin with a silver composition of 0.925 fineness. Minted in Ottawa, it features the KM# 20 variety and is uncertified. A great addition to any coin collection, this dime is a piece of Canadian history. (eBay AI description). I'll try to be brief, but there is a history relevant to this coin. In 1941, Newfoundland was an independent Dominion under the protection of Mother England- All coins for Newfoundland were minted at either the Royal Mint in London or the Heaton Mint in Birmingham. There was a slight problem, though- the British Commonwealth, including Canada and Newfoundland, was busy with a little military dispute called WW II. It wasn't unusual for German U-boats to sink ships in the Atlantic flying a Commonwealth flag- that put Newfoundland in an awkward situation- they started to lose a lot of coinage from England on these ships that were sunk in the Northern Atlantic.Recognizing the need for a strategic shift, the decision was made in late 1940, starting in 1941, that all Newfoundland coinage would be minted in Ottawa at the Royal Canadian Mint, hence the 'C' in picture 3 under the year. As it turned out, all Newfoundland coinage was minted in Ottawa until Newfoundland became a Canadian province in 1949. (There- the history lesson wasn't THAT bad, was it?) This 1941 Canadian-minted Newfoundland 10-cent piece is 92.5% silver and 7.5 % copper. It weighs 33 grams and is 18.03 mm in diameter. This remarkable coin is in great shape. It is an important part of Canadian/Newfoundland history and a must-have for any collector. Please take a look at some of our other offerings, we do combine shipping when sent together.
