Description: From my airship collection I offer this quite lovely bronze medal from the 1924 American flight of the LZ 126. Listed by Kaiser as his #451.3. About perfect a large 60mm bronze struck by M. & W., the obverse has Count Zeppelin's bust right with his birth and death dates. The reverse has a half-length figure of Mercury flying left holding aloft the rear half of a zeppelin in his outstretched hand with ocean waves below. The legend refers to Dr. Eckener who commanded the airship and the crewmen who flew it. A beautiful medal commemorating a historic flight which may have started an improvement in German American relations. It honors also Graf Zeppelin whose wartime death went mostly unnoticed.
