Description: 1924-25 C144 Champ's Cigarettes James Herbert (Herberts) Rookie Hockey Card *RARE* C144 Champ's Cigarettes Hockey cards appeared during the 1924-25 NHL season. Unlike earlier tobacco cards, these feature an ad back that allows collectors to know exactly where they originated. The C144 cards are also quite scarce. The Card fronts feature a sepia-toned player picture surrounded by a white border area. The player's name appears below his image. Card backs begin with the cigarette brand name, a notation that it is one of 60 cards and the player's name. A short biography appears and is followed by a description of a hockey rule. Available is this James William "Sailor" Herbert (also known as Herberts) SCARE Rookie Card. Herbert played Centre for six seasons in the NHL for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Cougars. He was an original member of the Boston Bruins. He made his professional debut with the Boston Bruins in 1924–25, scoring 17 goals in 30 games. Herbert played three and a portion of a fourth season with the Bruins before being traded to the Maple Leafs in December 1927. At the end of the 1927–28, he was traded again, to the Cougars where he played a full season and part of the 1929–30 season. In this his rookie season of 1924–25, Herbert led the Bruins in both scoring and penalty minutes. Measured 1.5"x2.5", Soft Corners....See Scans...Sold as is.
