One of these planes landed completely off route, (Maryland as opposed to New York) however; the second attempt was a success, which lead to the beginning of air mail. This stamp that is pictured was the first air mail stamp created in order to help tax mail that was being transferred via airplane. This stamp that was issued in 1918 is valued up to $90 for Mint copies depending upon where you look.
