Description: This is a card of Detroit Tiger Hall of Famer "Wahoo" Sam Crawford, #11 in a set of twenty-five cards published by the Philadelphia Caremel Company in 1909. The Jefferson Burdick designation for this set is E95. The card was sent to PSA for authentication, grading and encapsulation. It was deemed to be Authentic, PSA's lowest grade. This is the designation that PSA uses to indicate the item is indeed authentic but does not rise in condition to one of its numbered grades because of its rough condition. It was encapsulated by PSA and given the certification number of 74769691. Only eighty-five examples of this Sam Crawford card have been encapsulated by PSA. The reverse of the card shows the twenty-five names in the set, with this one being the eleventh. The text on the bottom of the card reads, "Made by Philadelphia Caramel Co., Camden, New Jersey". The candy company was created in 1901 by Jakob Schleicher and Adolph Ebeling, and while they had distributed non-sports cards, this E95 set was their first baseball set. They are often seen with stains from the caramels with which they were packaged. Mr. Crawford, in addition to hitting .300 or better eight times, holds the major league baseball record for triples with 309. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1957.
