D., from an old Wynberg colleague, well-wishes friend, F. E. Fremantle, Nov. 1901'. Wynberg was a Military Hospital in Cape Town, used by the British Army during the war.Below this, a former owner's inscription notes that George Thornton was godfather to Dr. Symons, one of the nineteen men that appear on plate 8, page 62.Illustrated with thirty-four photographic plates, and with numerous further illustrations from George Watson. Collated, complete.Offering personal insight into the casualties of the Second Boer War. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. One bump to back strip head, with areas of fading to boards and joints. Hinges strained, with boards holding firm. Author's inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, binding lightly strained to centre of text block, but generally holding firm. Pages clean and bright, with a former owner's inscription to plate 8. The odd light pencil mark.
