James Anthony Walsh (1867-1936) was the co-founder of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers , a Catholic non-profit mission movement consisting of four organizations working together as missioners around the world. Rev. Walsh also founded The Field Afar magazine, a monthly publication about the foreign missions of the Catholic Church. " Choral Sodality Handbook " was his first published work. He served as Superior General of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers until he died in 1936. -------- A " sodality " is a confraternity or association, especially a Roman Catholic religious guild or brotherhood. " The Sodality of Our Lady ", also known as the " Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary " is a Roman Catholic Marian society founded in A.D. 1563 by young Belgian Jesuit Jean Leunis (or Jan ) at the Roman College of the Society of Jesus. The modern Ignatian lay group Christian Life Community traces its origins to the first Sodality. Originally established for young school boys, later sodalities for adults, under the authority of the Superior General of the Society of Jesus , were allowed to be established. In time Sodalities would be established for many particular groups in society, such as Priests , Noblemen and Women, Merchants, Labourers, Clerks, the Married, the Unmarried, Soldiers, and Street sodalities (etc., etc.). Many Catholic saints were, in their time on earth, members of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. -------- Condition. General binding wear ( see the photos ). The hinges are tight. Old pencil inscription on the front blank endpaper. No other writing. No markings. The pages are in good condition. Very Scarce. Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
