Description: Hard to find in this nice condition, this is the March 1896 issue of Harper's New Monthly Magazine. A very good copy, its loaded with photos, illustrations and ad pages. 150 pages of text, 4 pages of "Literary Notes" (book reviews) and 100 pages of advertising. See photo #2 for complete contents. Some highlights I find include: Illustrations by Frederic Remington (see photo #5 for an example), Howard Pyle, Guy Rose, W.T. Smedley, Peter S. Newell and many others. Mark Twain, here writing under the pseudonym "Louis De Conte" offers Part XII of his serial novel (illustrated) Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc. Ninetta Eames pens the story of "Arcadian Bee-Ranching" (illustrated). Future President Woodrow Wilson contributes a long article on "Colonel [George] Washington," with eleven illustrations. Casper W. Whitney's extended article on travels in the Canadian Territories, with fifteen illustrations by Remington and others: "On Snow Shoes to the Barren Grounds. Twenty-Six Hundred Miles after Musk-Oxen and Wood Bison." This is the Fourth Paper. Julian Ralph's story (illustrated) of Mandarin China, "The 'Boss' of Ling-Foo." See photo #6. Numerous other articles, poems, book news, reviews (including one of American poet and critic Edmund Clarence Stedman's notable Victorian Anthology of British Poetry), and reports of various kinds. Lots of great ads (100 pages of them) in this one.
