Scrapbook. Approx. 12" x 10". Decorated and illustrated cloth covers. "Mark Twain's Adhesive Scrap Book..." paper label on the front paste down. The front cover is detached. The back cover is near detached. The spine is faded, torn and chipped. The cloth covers are frayed on the edges. The interior contents are in good condition. Contents of the scrapbook include [6] unused thumb index pages, 146 pages of 148 pages used for hundreds of clipped and pasted down articles, announcements, notes, typed poems, memorials, cards, etc. No photographs inside. Dates range from the mid 1890's to the late 1930's. A periodical dated 1942 laid inside the back cover. The clipped paper articles and other ephemera is in good condition for the most part with some scattered glue stains, light soil to some of the pasted down items, and a few page tears and creases. One leave is cut in half. A sampling of the items contained inside include (2) 100 dollar Confederate bank notes (authentic and signed), articles from Austin and Brownsville. article on the "Commencement at the Carlisle Indian School", article on "What Lincoln Said: His Memorable Address Upon the Battlefield of Gettysburg", an article from a 1909 Honolulu, Hawaii Territory newspaper titled "Transport Logan Hard and Fast on the Coral", Grand Army Fair Art Gallery 4 page catalog, voting results in San Antonio - "Official Count. Full and Complete Returns of the City Election February 11, 1895, a broadside verse "Taint No Use to Sit An' Whine" - Dallas, Texas July 10, 1895", an article on the Battle of Alamo, articles on the first Capital of Texas in Columbia, Bruton Parish Church Virginia article, news clipping picture of the "Zaza of Richmond" - a house boat, several articles on President Coolidge and his wife, 1906-7 "Announcement of Austin (Texas) Male Academy, 1930's articles related to Virginia, a mimeograph copy of a Citation from the United States Commander Seventh Fleet regarding T. C. Kincaid, and many news clipping pictures of people. No owner of this comprehensive scrapbook indicated.
