Description: Coin: Morgan DollarYear: 1880Country of Issue: United StatesMint: San FranciscoCondition: NGC MS64+Composition: 90% Silver, 10% CopperVariety: VAM 51A (Doubled 880, RPM S/S, Large "Dot" on second "S" in "States"). Not designated on holder, but very clearly a VAM 51A. For your consideration ... ... an 1880-S/S Morgan Dollar certified MS64+ by NGC. Though not designated on the holder, this coin is unquestionably a VAM 51A. Among its features is a doubled "880", die chips in the first "8", a re-punched mint mark -- and by far its most distinctive die marker, a dot of metal on the second "S" in "STATES." While the VAM 51A does not appear on VAMWorld's Top 100 or "Hit List", it is still a modestly popular variety due to its RPM and, especially, the "S" dot. This silver dollar is so close to being proof-like -- and really, probably could have gone either way during the grading process. Sometimes it just comes down to the individual grader. To be clear, it is NOT certified PL and is not an obvious "undergrade" as far as the add-on goes. Still, ANACS and ICG almost certainly would have given it the PL cert, and there's a chance PCGS or NGC (on re-submit) would bump it up as well. But Such is the subjective nature of coin grading. Anyway, mirrors on this coin reach 3 to 4 inches on the obverse and 2 to 3 on the reverse. The obverse features a distinct but subtle cameo, though it pops out beautifully in full light, where it takes on a thicker, "blast-white" cam look against the dark of the fields. In hand, Liberty sports a very clean cheek for the grade (it's not pristine in the photos of viewed through a loupe, of course, but at typical viewing distance, there are very few flaws to be found.) It's easy to see why this earned a plus grade, and though it falls just shy of Gem, it certainly looks like a 65 or even 65+. The reverse is just as nice, with full devices, solid contrast and a bold strike. The mirrors are not as strong but it still has that "PL" look. +++ If you have any questions about this or any item, please let us know. We are a small, family-run business and are happy to assist fellow collectors and dealers, whether they buy from us or not. Thank you for checking out this item, and don't forget to check out our other listings as well. We usually have a dozen or more items for sale at any given time. +++ PLEASE NOTE: Due to continued incidents involving fraudulent returns on eBay in the U.S. and other countries, all returns are now opened in the presence of the local postmaster or postal carrier, and a certified notary public. This change does NOT affect our return policy in any way. Returns are still accepted for any reason as long as the item(s) are returned unaltered and undamaged. And refunds are still processed within 24 hours of the return's arrival (and almost always the same day.) You can find additional details of our return policy below, but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us through ebay. Thank you for your continued support of Shenandoah.blue. +++ RETURN POLICY: We accept returns for any reason up to 30 days after your item arrives, as long as it is returned undamaged, unopened and unaltered. Raw DMPL or PL coins may still be returned if they have been taken out of their cardboard flips, as we understand the importance of being able to check mirror depth without the distortion of the reflective mylar. However, coins must then be re-secured in a new cardboard flip or mylar holder and returned otherwise unaltered. When we say we offer no hassle returns for any reason, we actually mean it. Don't like your item? No problem. Change your mind? No problem. Found a better price? No problem. Run it through the wash? ... eh, yeah, that would be a problem. But almost anything else — that's right, no problem. Refunds, which consist of 100 percent of the purchase price (we don't charge "restocking fees"), are usually processed the same day the returned item is delivered, and always within 24 hours. If you wish to return an item, please give us the opportunity to make things right before you leave negative or neutral feedback or open a return case with ebay. You can always go back and open a case or leave negative feedback later if you are not satisfied. We strive to not only meet expectations, but to exceed them. We do not play games with return policies, shipping costs, photos or item descriptions. And we always list the good, the bad and the ugly in all of our listings so you have the information needed to make an informed purchasing decision. Thank you for reading and for looking at our items. If you have any questions about our listings, or our return or shipping policies, please feel free to contact us. We are happy to answer any questions you might have, whether you purchase an item from us or not. Thanks again.Sincerely,Shenandoah.Blue
