Description: 1864 Republican Presidential Ticket/ Abraham Lincoln/ Civil War Up for auction is a rare 1864 Ohio presidential ticket for the Republican party of Abraham Lincoln for President and Andrew Johnson for Vice President housed in a 9 ¼” x 13 ½” frame. This ticket has Hamilton County, Ohio preprinted at the top, but was scratched out. Abraham Lincoln’s presidential opponent was Major General George McClellan, the Unions commanding general for the early part of the Civil War. Lincoln was McClellan’s former boss and commander who had him removed as the Army’s field commander. Lincoln had good reason to doubt his chances for reelection as no president since Andrew Jackson in 1832 had won a second term. McClellan ran on an anti-Lincoln and anti-Emancipation Proclamation platform and left open the possibility for a negotiated peace with the South. As the election approached, Union victories on the battlefield helped propel Lincoln to win the election. He used this victory to press on for an unconditional war victory and a constitutional amendment to end slavery. There was a 78% voter turnout in the election, and Lincoln won 55% of the popular vote and 212 of the 233 electoral votes cementing a decisive victory. Lincoln won the popular vote in Ohio with 265,654 votes to McClellan’s 205,599 votes, but most importantly, Lincoln received all 21 of Ohio’s electoral votes. Lincoln would only serve a few months as president before being assassinated, Johnson was forced to step in in a difficult time to help unite the states again amid the conclusion of the great Civil War. What a great piece of Civil War memorabilia and an excellent addition to any Civil War collection, ready for hanging.See photos for condition. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
