Description: For sale is a very cool 1863 Army & Navy Civil War Token. During the Civil War the economy was so bad in the North that many private businesses created their own coins and currency that could be used at their businesses as sort of a barter system. They tried to make their coins look almost identical to real U.S. coins--in this case the Cent. They were also a way of supporting the Union during the way by depicting patriotic themes on the tokens. In this case the obverse shows the U.S. Capital as it was in 1862 and the reverse gives a salute to the Army & Navy. These coins were very important historical pieces during the Civil War.As you can see from the pics the coin is in really good shape. As a coin it would come in at around a VF or XF grade. The date and all lettering is clear and readable. It has a nice maroon patina to it and other than a couple scuffs on the reverse it has no major damage and has not been cleaned. This is a great Civil War piece that can be had at a very low price. Thanks!
