1862 Confederate Currency – Civil War Bullets - Civil War Relics - 5095

Description: An original 1862 hand signed “Two Dollars” Confederate note. The note was engraved with the vignette of J.P. Benjamin at left and the personification of the South striking down the Union at center. It has the hand inscribed serial number “111827” in red ink. The note was printed with a plain back. There were about 200 different people who signed for each treasury official. For the most part they were women, many the wives or daughters of Confederate soldiers who had been killed in action. Original lead ammunition found on the Chancellorsville Battlefield in Virginia. The bullet at center is a .58 Federal issue made in the Northern arsenals for the Springfield rifle. It hasn’t been fired; whether from the paper cartridge breaking or that it was possibly wet and discarded. The one at left is a Confederate issue .57 Enfield either imported from England or made with imported molds. The one at right is a fired .58 rifle round that could have been used by either side. They all used a paper cartridge which has not survived in the ground. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, near the village of Chancellorsville. Two related battles were fought nearby on May 3 in the vicinity of Fredericksburg. The campaign pitted Union Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker's “Army of the Potomac” against an army less than half its size, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia”. They are mounted in an 8” x 12” Riker style case with glass front. The artifacts are just pressed in, we don’t glue them in. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Please see our "About Collectors Frame”, below the reviews on the front page, for more information on the framing and artifacts.
