Near VG, with a little staining, a small tear. The map is tipped into the rear of an 1853 copy of the Colton-published Statistical Gazetteer (although it would make sense for the map to be issued with the book, I can find no other examples of them still together!) Details of the book follow: A New and Complete Statistical Gazetteer of the United States of America, founded on and compiled from Official Federal and State Returns, and the Seventh National Census. By Richard Swainson Fisher, M.D. New York: J. H. Colton, 1853. The book has an old owner signature of Stephen Foster, Gilsum, New Hampshire. I believe this would be Stephen Foster, Jr. (1798-1870). Later stamps of New Hampshire historian and genealogist Frank Burnside Kingsbury. Original spine lost with old crude failed rebacking, rear cover detached, front cover weakly attached, covers worn, chipped, corners worn through. Pages yellowed, foxed throughout, sometimes heavily; dampstain to first and last couple dozen leaves, some other leaves affected by a small margin stain; some notes, other blemishes. Book on the better end of Fair condition, map near VG.
