Description: We are offering an 1831 Stampless Letter / Postal Cover that was mailed to Albany, NY. There is no stamped postmark, just something hand-written where the postmark normally would be. Also, hand-written at the upper right is "NY PP", which we assume meant New York Postage Paid or Pre-Paid. **NOTE** - there is no postage stamp, as postage stamps were not issued until 1847. The letter dated February 19, 1831, is to Robert F. Stack, Albany, NY and is from Benjamin Stack, Hawthorn, Massachusetts. It is in regard to the sale of "Elizabeth's personal property. sold to the highest bidder for $573.00 and also that on March 2 the farm in Norfolk County will be sold to the highest bidder......" **NOTE** - As was common during this period, the letter also served as the envelope by folding it a certain way, addressing it, and sealing with a red wax seal. **CONDITION** - There are two tears at the bottom of the letter which have been repaired with acid-free archival mending tape.
