Timothy Dwight (1752-1817) was an American theologian from Boston. He was a graduated from Yale College and then went on to become the 8th president of the institution. He was the grandson of famous theologian and orator, Jonathan Edwards. Dwight was known for his intellectual prowess, having been able to read the Bible since he was four and graduated from Yale when he was 17. This sermon was given toward the end of his life to the annual meeting of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mission which was the first American Christian Missionary organization on the continent.
