Description: The print offered here is a collaborative work that was produced for the so-called 'Galerie du Musée Napoléon', a set of 718 engravings that reproduced paintings and sculptures from the collections of the Musee Napoleon. The set was published over the years from 1804 to 1815. After Napoleon fell from power, the series name was changed to 'Galerie du Musée de France'. Alexis Chataignier (1772-1817) was a FrencheEngraver of satires and series of hand-coloured etchings relating to social types, costumes and events of the history of the Republic and of the Directoire. He engraved 173 plates for this series. Niquet (1769-1831) was a French engraver and publisher. Cornelis van Poelenburch (1594-1667) was a Dutch artist and painter who did the original painting that this etching reproduced. The print, numbered 483 in the upper left hand corner, is in very good condition and is beautifully matted and framed. On the reverse, there is a label from the Galleria Cecchini in Perugia, Italy. An example of this print is in the British Museum collection, No. 1856,0308.952. This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
