Description: You are bidding on an antique hardcover book titled The Poetical Works of William Collins, Enriched with Elegant Engravings, to Which is Prefixed A Life of the Author, by Dr. Johnson. This is a very early printing, being just the Second Edition. Printed in London, England by T. Bensley for Vernor and Hood..., 1800. Imagine, this book is over 200 years old!!! William Collins (25 December 1721 – 12 June 1759) was an English poet. Second in influence only to Thomas Gray, he was an important poet of the middle decades of the 18th century. His lyrical odes mark a turn away from the Augustan poetry of Alexander Pope's generation and towards the Romantic era which would soon follow. Book features full leather binding. Covers remain securely attached. The binding shows some wear/rubbing. The spine title label is missing about a third. The leather binding is somewhat dry with cracking. All pages are clean and tightly bound with some foxing. Outside page edges have marbelised design. Very old previous owner bookplate on inside of front cover (Charles Wister). Rare book is in good condition! This is a terrific book to add to a collection! Great gift idea! (Inventory: 409) Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
