Description: This is an engraving of Richard II, King of England, plate engraved for the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1718. It was engraved by George Vertue 1684-1756, from theoriginal portrait of Richard II, dating to the 1390’s and is one of the earliest examples ofa portrait of a British Monarch. Richard II lived from 1367 until 1400 and reigned from 1377 until 1399. The engraving is in an old oak frame measuring 28.25”x 18.25”, thewindow in the mat measures 20.75”x 10.5”. There is one small stain or foxing in theLatin script, that can be seen in a photo, but both frame and engraving are in very good condition. The photos give the engraving and mat a yellow tint, but both havea more cream like look. Beautiful engraving for the age.
