Description: 10/53 HARPER’S BAZAAR & BEYOND THE HIGH HIMLAYAS BOOK AS SEEN IN HITCHCOCK’S “REAR WINDOW”. This is a rare combo lot of the OCTOBER 1953 HARPER’S BAZAAR magazine’s Beauty Issue along with a 1952 hardback book, BEYOND THE HIGH HIMALAYAS, similar to the copies seen in ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S masterful film, REAR WINDOW. At the very end of the film classic, we see beautiful Grace Kelly (as Lisa Fremont) glancing at a copy of the travel book to impress her boyfriend, Jimmy Stewart (as Jeff Jeffries). Noticing that he is finally sleeping, she quickly puts down the book and then picks up a copy of Harper’s Bazaar, which is more to her liking. The magazine shown in the film is the October 1953 issue, but sharp-eyed viewers will notice that the date of this issue in the film has been altered so we do not see it. (see film grabs). The large, 258-page issue has become quite the very rare collector’s item, not only for its great content in the fashion world but for film buffs as well. Highlights include: Dior, Jennifer Jones, Cecil Beaton and much more. Also in this lot is the vintage copy of the 1952 book, BEYOND THE HIGH HIMALAYAS, complete with original dust jacket. It is a travel book that has about 20 pages of Himalayan music, 42 illustrations in full color end paper map and a text that transports the reader to another world. PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE TWO ITEMS ARE NOT THE ACTUAL PROPS USED IN THE FILM, BUT ARE TRUE VINTAGE PIECES FROM 1952 AND 1953. The magazine is in GOOD condition, with definite age wear and use, as expected. The book is in good shape with age and use. The dust jacket has age-wear and paper tears, as seen in the photos.
